Dgen is a Sega Genesis emulator written by Dave and many other authors such as FinalBurn. Initially, the emulator was developed for Windows only, but later it was also available on many different platforms. In July 2001, programmer Joe Groff used SDL as an auxiliary to Dgen port, using SDL to adapt to other Unix systems quickly. In 2008, programmer Bertrand “Tamentis” Janin, in an attempt to revive the emulator was extremely active to add features to it. Until 2014, the emulator stopped developing in the final version, which was 1.33.
